It is very worrying that Pakistan is leading among nations resisting vaccination shots against the COVID-19 pandemic. It was pointed out that 21 per cent Pakistanis opposed vaccination, followed by 11 per cent Americans and 10 per cent Italians. Though many Pakistanis favour pandemic jabs but they also express reservations about the exercise.
One reason could be the long history of Pakistanis being made fearful of vaccination as such exercised have been unjustly pinned up with negative propaganda. The recent example is the ferocious reaction against Polio vaccine and this exercise has witnessed violence associated with it. In this context it was reported that on an average Pakistanis harbour intense reservations about COVID-19 vaccine as only half of the total respondents showed mild anticipation.
People expressing hesitation against vaccination offer different reasons for their negative attitude as some are being scared of the jab, some reject the vaccine outright and many feel that the vaccine has been rapidly manufactured without effective testing against the side effects. The most potent sentiment in the Pakistanis about the vaccine is utter confusion as they have not been properly briefed about it. TW
